Message centre number for txt messages?

I have to change my mobile because the changer is knackered. The mobile I was planning on using wont let me send messages. When I first tried to it said the message centre number isnt set. Dd said to set it as 171. But I still can't send messages. I am with meteor (Irish network) and im trying to use a nokia bp-6m. Any ideas?
