Should I wait for more signs and then ask him out (short!)?

Recently, this guy I think is cute said hi to me and winked at me with a big school boy smile for the first time ever! I've known him for two years, but we've rarely ever spoken to each other, but he had been very subtly showing some sort of affection towards me before the wink and smile.
