I really thought I was going to be someone special...is it too late?

My whole life I grew up thinking that I was going to have a very special life, maybe fame, maybe rich or just someone who was extraordinary. Well, here I am 48 yrs old and living a very very mediocre life. Don't get me wrong, I did give birth to 2 great children and as much as I see that as special....it's just I always thought I could do great things in my life and with my life. Is it too late? How can I find " my greatness"?
